Senior Public Tax Accountant

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Public Tax Accountant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in public accounting, with at least five years of experience providing tax planning, compliance, and advisory services to a diverse client base. This role requires a deep understanding of federal and state tax regulations, the ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service. The Senior Public Tax Accountant will work closely with business owners, individuals, partnerships, corporations, and nonprofit organizations to develop tax strategies, ensure compliance, and identify opportunities that support long-term financial success.

The successful candidate is analytical, proactive, and highly organized, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, estates, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Conduct tax research and provide guidance on complex tax issues and regulatory changes.
  • Develop tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities and maximize financial opportunities for clients.
  • Manage multiple client engagements while ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
  • Review financial statements and supporting documentation for accuracy and tax reporting purposes.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding tax matters, audit inquiries, notices, and planning opportunities.
  • Assist clients with tax projections, estimated tax payments, and year-end planning.
  • Represent clients before taxing authorities when necessary.
  • Mentor and support junior accounting staff through training, review, and technical guidance.
  • Collaborate with partners and leadership on client service initiatives and business development opportunities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of tax laws, accounting standards, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of public accounting experience with a concentration in tax.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or CPA candidate.
  • Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and closely held businesses.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with multi-state tax compliance and planning.
